LEADERSHIP

BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Michael Allen

Michael is owner of The Michael James Allan Co., and a managing member or partner in several Limited Liability Companies.

He worked in advertising, public relations and public affairs for the world’s largest advertising agency, headquartered in New York City; for General Telephone & Electronics in Washington and Oregon; and for the largest advertising agency in the Pacific Northwest before forming his own agency. He then operated offices in Seattle, Federal Way and Tukwila for 35 years.

Michael began investing in and developing real estate in the early 1960s and this grew into a full-time occupation by the mid-1990s.

His projects have been mostly multi-family residential buildings, located in Everett, Burien, Sea-Tac, West Seattle and Des Moines. These have all been for his family account.

In addition, he has partnered with others on commercial buildings, including a multi-block office development in downtown Seattle; and on an historic low-rise office building re-hab in the Denny Regrade.

Currently he is a major partner in the re-development of the Washington Building, an historic 18-story office tower in the downtown Tacoma central business district.

Michael has lived in the Des Moines area for 33 years. He and his wife, Joan, reside at BeachStone, a condominium they developed at the Des Moines marina. Their son lives in Florida; their daughter in Wisconsin. He and Joan attend Steel Lake Presbyterian Church.

Michael enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps immediately after graduating from High School. After serving a term of active duty, he attended the University of Washington, where he received a B.A. in Journalism. He meanwhile remained in the Marine Corps Reserve, eventually transferring to the U.S. Navy Reserve, serving for a combined total of 28 years and retiring at the rank of Captain.

He recently completed a five-year term as a member of the Board of Trustees, Highline Community College. He is a member of the Des Moines Rotary Club.

Michael and Joan support Destination Des Moines; the Des Moines Legacy Foundation; The Highline Community College Foundation, The Highline Schools Fund for Excellence and several other cultural and educational endeavors in Seattle and South King County.

“I appreciate the opportunity to serve as Landmark’s only ‘outside’ board member and will strive to warrant the trust extended to me by the other board members,” Michael said.
